Brass cogs, corsets, top hats and steam engines: steampunk is more than a costume, it is a complete aesthetic — and Luxembourg hosts one of the finest gatherings in the Greater Region. On 26 and 27 September 2026, the Anno 1900 convention takes over the Fond-de-Gras. Here is what you need to know, and how to dress without spending three months on it.
Anno 1900: the essentials
- When: Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2026, 11:00 to 18:00
- Where: Minett Park Fond-de-Gras, Hall Paul Wurth, 2 Fond-de-Gras, L-4576 Niederkorn
- How much: free entry. Performances and concerts are free; only the historic trains and the shuttle are chargeable
- Getting there: the site is closed to private vehicles. Access is by the Train 1900 from Pétange, or by shuttle
The setting does half the work: brick, steel and the glass roof of a former industrial hall, with steam locomotives in the background. The programme includes a Victorian market inside and outside the hall — clothing, hats, lamps, jewellery, leather, paper craft, forge work — unusual mechanical creations, and music from Charles à Temps, the Abacus Theater, the Folk Dandies, the Swingin' Hepcats and Anachronika, among others.
The Minièresbunn, the mine train to Lasauvage, runs on Saturday at 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00, and on Sunday at 12:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00 — cash only, no booking.
Steampunk in two minutes
The idea fits in one sentence: the future as the 19th century imagined it. A Victorian England that never discovered electricity or oil, and pushed steam and gearwork all the way to the airship and the automaton.
In practice, a steampunk silhouette mixes three ingredients:
- A Victorian base — frock coat, waistcoat, ruffled shirt, long skirt, corset worn on the outside
- An industrial layer — leather, straps, buckles, brass, copper, exposed cogs
- An explorer's accessory — welding goggles, pocket watch, worked cane
The colours are muted: brown, burgundy, black, cream, with gold or bronze for the metals. No bright colours — that is the single slip that gives away an improvised outfit.
The variants you see most
- Classic Victorian steampunk — the most worn: top hat, waistcoat, pocket watch
- Explorer or aviator — goggles on the forehead, gloves, boots, strapped jacket
- Western steampunk — hat, aged leather, gun belt
- Dieselpunk — a few decades later, more mechanical and darker
- Fantasy steampunk — vampire, witch or creature in a Victorian key
Putting an outfit together: what actually matters
A convincing outfit comes down to one strong piece plus three accessories. There is no need to buy everything.
The accessories that make the outfit
The top hat. It is what gives you the silhouette. In felt, at 14,90 €, it turns a white shirt and a waistcoat into a period costume. A more elaborate version with the Nawu hat at 16,90 €.
The mask. For a memorable entrance: steampunk mask at 22,90 €, Steambunny at 24,90 €, or a full helmet at 49,90 € for a real statement piece.
The cane. The most underrated accessory, and the one that changes everything in photographs.
- Dragon metal cane — 44,90 €
- Pistol cane — 39,90 €
- Cane with silver flower pommel — 34,90 €
The pocket watch — 16,90 €. The detail everyone notices, and the cheapest of the steampunk markers. Worn on the waistcoat, chain showing.
The bronze welding goggles — 6,90 €. On the forehead or on the hat, never over the eyes: that is the signature of the genre.
For her
The lace steampunk cape (ref. BOL54555, 29,90 €) is our most versatile piece: laid over a dress or a long skirt you already own, it makes the outfit on its own. Otherwise, the women's steampunk waistcoat at 29,90 €, or a full costume from 59,90 €.
Complete it with black and gold tights (9,90 €), a set of lace accessories (16,90 €) or a Victorian wig (16,90 €).
For him
The steampunk waistcoat at 24,90 € over a white shirt and dark trousers does most of the work. The sleeveless burgundy jacquard waistcoat (29,90 €) is a dressier alternative. Full men's costume from 59,90 €.
Add a hat, a pocket watch and a cane, and the outfit is complete. Explore the whole steampunk range.
The other steampunk dates in the region
Anno 1900 is the best known, but the local scene is active all year round. The Luxembourg Steampunk Society keeps a calendar of events in the country and the Greater Region — including a convention in Echternach, a festival at the Rives de Clausen in Luxembourg City, as well as Steelpunk in Uckange, Battle in Amnéville and FARK in Reden, on the French and Saarland side.
